Final Blog Submission

Viral Media is the first post I have linked to and this post identifies how a video or meme becomes viral. It shows a predicted cycle of how a video or meme can go viral, and the connections between viewers with relation to the way neural pathways in our brains work. Another post I have also chosen is what technology could look like in the future, as it explains a new idea of technology, that could change the way individuals interact with each other and technology. This post explains the idea that even though they say the new fad is devices getting bigger, perhaps we can still create a device which is smaller yet equally intriguing. In contrast, Looking behind the Screens also shows how we should interact with each other rather than staring at our devices. This post focuses on how we should socialise with one another in person like our past ancestors have, instead of behind our screens. This post compliments and contrasts with Times are changing, as our culture is presented with more attractive devices, we become more selfish. There is a lessened sympathy for selfless factory workers as we shift into laziness and do not want to take responsibility for undertaking simple tasks by ourselves. On the contrary, selfish consumers such as Bloody Hackers take advantage of the devices as they sneak through the networks of the internet and hack into many accounts. I have included this post as it describes that these people can get past the highest security cables and take advantage of someone. It also explains how we rely on the internet to be protected and rely on our accounts to always be there and when our connections have been stolen we don’t know what to do.

Transmedia Side

The flowchart shows how the narrative of the film can be rearranged by consumers. The Flowchart therefore is not linear and can be rearranged depending on the players intentions. The flowchart shown above is an interactive game that would be used on a website. This game would work like a puzzle, players would need to watch each video from a scene in the film and put the videos into the order they believe makes sense. They can rearrange the puzzle and change the order of the film. This allows players to interactively create their own film and compare their film to the original. A link at the bottom of the website would be present in order for consumers to identify the original intentions of the film and decide which one they prefer.

Transmedia Project

1. Project Reflection

I have chosen to make a film about a deaf girl called Emily Hawn, who receives a nasty text from one of her so called friends. After receiving the text the girl becomes so upset she drops her phone and passes out from the stress. When Emily awakes she is in an altered state of mind, confused, angry and upset. Due to these emotions welling up inside her out of rage, she decides to kill the girl who sent the text message.

Emily cuts her neck and after doing so, stares at the knife in front of her in disbelief. She can’t believe what she has just done, therefore she runs through the house in a distressing state. Emily runs out on to the street and runs past a guy. She attempts to communicate to him in sign language however he has no idea what she is saying. This scene appears at the beginning of the film without the use of subtitles, the same scene is repeated at the end of the film although with subtitles. This allows the audience to understand Emily was the person who killed Kayla; although when Emily looks at the bloody knife in her hand, she cannot understand what has happened. She didn’t believe she killed Kayla, therefore she runs out on the street trying to ask the guy, she bumps into to “call the police, there’s a dead body.”  I decided to use this idea because I like watching suspenseful movies where you have no idea what is happening. Although, using clues you can understand what might have happened. I want the audience to feel as if they are living the life of Emily and experiencing what it is like for someone who doesn’t truly understand the world around them. It also shows when it can become hard to communicate with the world; drastic decisions can be made out of confusion. I wanted people to see something different to include a sign language part in the film, to have the mystery held at the start but then somewhat resolved in the end.  The ending is left for interpretation by the viewers to create their own ending.

Firstly, I created some storyboards, to ensure I already knew how I wanted each shot to appear. However, due to some slight changes about the story during filming I withdrew some shots and exchanged them for others. Some slight challenges were made as Hayley who I had already filmed, did not have enough time to be involved in the rest of the film, therefore I found Casey to replace her by presenting the rest of the film from her point of view. I realised we would not be able to use Casey’s face in the shots as the audience would become confused by two different actors playing a deaf girl. This allows the audience to feel interactive while watching the film, as they feel as if they are experiencing the revenge of a deaf girl. When filming I used various angles so when it came to editing I would have various shots to choose from. This would give me the flexibility of producing the film to a high quality.

The tools used for this project included a tripod and HD video camera. I chose to use a video camera rather than a mobile phone as I wanted to include all elements in the frame from a good distance. Using the video camera I could zoom up close and I believe this would have been more challenging if filmed on a mobile phone. When editing I used a fifteen day trial Arc Soft Showbiz. I found this program quite surprisingly easy to use and efficient. I trimmed every video interval and adjusted some shots to make them appear on the screen for an extended amount of time. I accomplished this by dragging an arrow to the right; therefore the shot would appear on the screen longer than the video actually runs for. I used effects on the program to put the video in grey scale, the reason for making it in black and white gave the film more meaning as most silent films in history are displayed in black and white. The use of text to describe what the character is trying to say is also evident in silent films. The idea of making the film appear as a silent movie also allows the audience to relate with the main character, as they can identify what it would be like to be deaf.

I learnt how to work with Showbiz, and exploring its different tools. The film was basically made on trial and error, by playing with different tools and seeing if they could be applied to my film. The tools I used in this program included cutting by trimming the scene and excluding material I didn't want to use in my film. I increased the brightness; therefore the audience were able to see the murder scene. I used blue arrows shown below, as I could move them to parts in the film I wanted to include. I locked the start of the trim and end of the trim, then applied it to the overall film.

When adding the audio to the film I had some trouble, with the actual video content started conflicting with the music I wished to add to the film. I also trimmed the bar representing the music, to parts in the film I wanted it to play in relation to. Whereas, the song called The Deed was added and trimmed to fit into the film at places I wished for the song to play. At the end of the track I was able to drag the music to position it alongside a scene I decided represented that type of music. At one time the music stops altogether the reason for this being, I wanted the audience to realise something is not right in the situation. The slight inclusion of the abnormal placement of a quick sound of a piano key, also showed how distorted the situation and Emily’s state of mind was.

I also learnt how to upload videos onto YouTube, which was a lot easier than I expected.
Somehow I ended up getting rid of the videos sound and including the music. I really like the music I have chosen for the film, as the song Abandoned accurately represents Emily’s situation in the beginning as she is alone and needs someone’s help. This music makes the audience feel sympathy for her situation even though they do not understand what trouble she is experiencing. The emotion portrayed on her face and the music alongside it, expresses how she is feeling at the time. In contrast is the same for the song The Deed, as this represents Emily’s inhibitions as she is on a mission to seek revenge for the offensive text message.

I learnt how to use mockingbird to represent the videos and text of a puzzle I would present on a website. I learnt how to add text and move the videos around and position them neatly.

Overall, I am happy with how the film has turned out as it reflects my original intentions.

2. Storyboards

In this scene, the deaf girl called Emily is attempting to communicate to Brett who she has bumped into down the street. Although, Brett has no idea how to communicate with sign language, so he just looks at her with a confused expression. Emily is upset and worried as she needs his help. She doesn't know what to do, she tries to let him know what is going on.

In this scene, Emily has the knife in her left hand as shown by the knife just inside the frame. In complete darkness, Emily is about to kill Kayla S. due to her sending Emily an offensive text message.

3&4: Interactive Flowchart

Link to the original film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIvNJopP5xU

The flowchart shows how the narrative of the film can be rearranged by consumers. The Flowchart therefore is not linear and can be rearranged depending on the players intentions. The flowchart shown above is an interactive game that would be used on a website. This game would work like a puzzle, players would need to watch each video from a scene in the film and put the videos into the order they believe makes sense. They can rearrange the puzzle and change the order of the film. This allows players to interactively create their own film and compare their film to the original. A link at the bottom of the website would be present in order for consumers to identify the original intentions of the film and decide which one they prefer.

 5. Additional Transmedia Aspects:

Other transmedia aspects I would like to create include a game about the story; therefore the audience can choose an ending they are content with. As this film does not really have a true ending, the audience might be annoyed and wish there was a better ending. This would satisfy their expectations. I would like to make a website where videos of broken up scenes could be rearranged by the user. Therefore, they are able to create the film they want to see. It could also act like a game as they could try to figure out the order of the film, and then after watching the film they can see how accurately their film matched the original. I would also like to make a similar film perhaps edited a bit better and create the film into a choose your own adventure story. What would be great is making a choose your own adventure game available to play on a DVD player.

Another, transmedia aspect I would like to create is one on a website whereby clicking on different links sends you to different parts of the story. The audience have to assume or create their own story, in regards to the videos they watch on the website.

Documentation#2- Filming

On Saturday 18th May, I began trial filming for my short film. I filmed one scene for the film which worked out great. The actors were perfect for the roles they played. However, the girl who was going to act as the main character does not have reliable time, to ensure I get the film completed. Therefore, I have needed to pick up another actor who will be in place of her role.

There are a few shots that can be used that are not filmed of the character. I found a perfect location for the filming in a street and it turned out exactly how I imagined it. Filming, is expected to be completed by the end of this week therefore I can focus on the editing. I will be having assisted help from people who have used editing before, to ensure that I am doing the right thing. As I understand editing is not just something you can pick up in a flash. I look forward to filming the rest of the film.

Here is some snippets from the filming that was completed on Saturday:

Some bloopers for fun:

Rumours of the new coming iPhone 6

There has been lots of rumours about what the iphone 6 is going to look like and the various functions it will have. We cannot be 100% sure of its style and functions until it actually comes out. Some of the rumours have included the use of a wrap around screen which allows you to multitask and be on two websites or applications at the same time. It also allows a panoramic view on the phone however, this could be just rumour as we all need our privacy and having a wrap around screen on a train would not be private.

More rumours include the iPhone 6 consisting of a display projector and keyboard projector. this could be extremely efficient as sometimes typing on a touch screen can prove to be challenging at time. By having a projected keyboard would be beneficial as we wouldn't need to rely on auto correct which can sometimes be detrimental to some of the words it thinks we are trying to say. check out the video below as this concept looks awesome for future technology.

Another rumour involves a completely clear phone, almost see through. The style looks cool, and graphics may look more enhanced. Also, discussed is that on the iPhone 6 there would not be a home screen as all you would need to do, is touch anywhere on the bottom bar which sends you to the home screen. There is also different functions for the bottom bar, as if you touch it so many times it will entail different functions. The use of fingerprinting technology also allows the phone to be more secure, therefore more people are going to buy it. Everyone wants to keep private and ensure people cannot hack their accounts, and steal their identity.

Looking behind the screens

Sorry I didn't do this post earlier but it is actually that difficult to remove yourself from your networks. We are all so involved in these networks we forget what it would be like to not have them. I tried to remove myself from all of my connections. However, it deemed difficult as I realised I could not even use simple devices such as a toaster, kettle or even a microwave. I ended up taking the dog for a walk, sitting at home looking around at certain things and just thinking. It is surprising to notice how much more extra time in the day you have to do things as your not just trying to communicate with lots of people on technology. It is our connections that keep us in contact with everyone in the world. Without our networks we would all be lonely people, living in a world where we would all be strangers.

How our culture interact socially online
Some of us fail to realise how lucky we are to have new technologies such as mobile phones, television and computers, as sometimes these devices can actually save our lives. Mobile phones can protect us as we can call for help, television provides information on the news which allows us to understand how to react in certain situations. Computers have the ability of diagnosing ourselves with illnesses we maybe experiencing.

Some of the thinking I ended up doing was just assessing my life and I believe this is time that everyone should stop to think about. Asking questions like is this the life I want to lead? Could I be doing more? Prioritizing study and life. These simple life lessons are forgotten about when we are constantly glued to our screens. Apart, from the good side of having no networks the detrimental side was astonishing as I sat there on the couch looking around by myself, I realised that "back in the day" our ancestors would meet up with their friends in the street.

I noticed during this time that I didn't know many people in the street. Many of us are so wrapped up in our own lives and stuck to technology. We are so wrapped in technology that we do not look at the beautiful world that surrounds us, the nature and embracing the privilege of living. How many young kids these days do you see walking the streets? Most would be locked in their houses playing games on their computers, or on Facebook talking to friends. If our current generation did not have technological connections, they would possibly be very bored and lonely people. Our parents and grandparents all got through without technology and still continue to have friends without social networking sites, therefore why can't we?
How we should socialise?
When I stopped all (most) connections, I was left looking out the window alone. Nevertheless, technology could be good as it does not leave us bored, and keeps us out of mischief. I realised in this moment that I do not really make the time to see my friends often. Communication in person is more engaging and personal than over a computer screen. I encourage all readers to make time to meet up with friends, and in doing so allows you to spend less time on social networking sites. Also, while you are talking to someone try not to engage with each other by watching funny YouTube videos and looking up things on your phone. We need to be able to make conversation with each other without relying on technology, because if one day we cannot use it will we know how to live our everyday lives?

Times are changing

I was just watching nine news and I couldn't believe what they proposed. Soon we will not need an eftpos card to spend our money, that we will simply be able to perform transactions on our phones!!!!! This is great regarding the advancement of technology, however is all of these new inventions making us lazy? For example, the new pay pass transactions could be dangerous as there is no need to remember your pin number and if it is stolen someone has full access to your account.

We are experiencing a new world something much different to the 1970s. This culture we are living in makes some believe that they will receive whatever they want without working for it. Today, in the lecture we learnt that factories creating our phones and electronic devices experience poor working conditions and are underpaid. We all know that these people are creating our products for a low cost, however we never really stop to think about how they are? These selfless people are creating devices above their affordability for us, and in return they are treated with disrespect. Are we all really that selfish and addicted to our devices, that giving them up would kill us? What would happen if the world stopped using their phones for a day? If that happened it would be revolutionary, that an most of the world can feel so strongly about something and use their own personal connections with each other in an act to change the future. This would provide awareness, as there are some people who do not even realise they are mistreated.

In the past our parents and grandparents all survived these eras living without devices, so why can't we? Is Earth Hour really the only time we put our devices to rest? Although, no doubt many people wouldn't be able to help themselves, leaving their lights and televisions on. However, what if one day Earth Hour became real and all our networks were cut off? Well I can assume that many of us wouldn't know what to do with ourselves, we would have to almost start life again. Create a new beginning, and instead of us teaching our grandparents how to use these devices. How would we cope in learning how they lived their everyday life? Would we be able to understand what they are trying to teach us? Well I have decided to cut off as many networks as possible, to suggest what life in those days would be like. Please keep tuned as that post will be implemented soon.

BLOODY HACKERS!!!!!!

HACKER!!!!!

Hi guys, well guess what? My email just got hacked into, how does one have the time and effort into stealing someones online identity? That I can't understand. I had to send an important email for my Dad and now I am to blame because I stuffed it all up. I kept trying to explain it was the hacker and not my fault but it didn't seem to register. Generation X don't understand computers that well and this has allowed myself to think maybe they should learn more about it. Before jumping to conclusions and saying that all computers are only good for storage all the other stuff on them is stupid. I can understand why this generation don't like social networking sites as we all strain our necks looking down we miss the world that surrounds us. Why not look at the scenery and take in the features of living?

It really baffles me how these so called "hackers" can slip through the cracks of various networks and delve their way into people's accounts. Why not use these skills for the better, not the worst? What is even worse is that after I completed the hotmail questionnaire, they say it will take 24 hours to confirm whether there is enough evidence to prove it is my email account. They asked questions such as what was the subject of your emails, sent items and what were the email of the addresses you have recently sent emails to? Although i don't have a magnificent memory. I REMEMBER THAT ALL THOSE ANSWERS ARE ON MY EMAIL ACCOUNT! I am not going to remember everything I send as an email, isn't that why we send emails? So that we can send the message forget about it then when there is a reply you can identify what your message was? We fail to remember these sorts of things because we never expect to be hacked into and rely on the internet to remember these sorts of things for us.

Once they have claimed your identity they can send various emails to your friends, attempting to also hack them which is then a never ending cycle. Once they send an email to one of your friends hack into their account then send emails to their friends, it just never stops as they slip through those network connections. It's as if they are actually riding through the cables of the internet and having the time of their life while everyone else is affected.

What technology could look like in the future

Okay so I have been thinking lately about the advancement of future technologies, because well it almost seems like we could be at a dead end. The iPhone's have been created and are a success however what is next? Everything seems all too familiar, proven by the iPhone 5 we have seen the phone get larger in screen size. Is this the platform for increasing the size of all phones to the old style 60s versions? Is this going to be the new fad for years to come? Getting people purchasing something different deterring them from the comfort of owning an iPhone?

I believe there could be a different idea something that can be used like a phone, but interactive within the household to make things easier. Imagine if you could have apps literally in front of you in your own living room. Imagine if you could use apps in your homes instead of being on a phone. This way others can interact and communicate with you at the same time. If the app acted like a button it could be turned on and off, but then you could scroll the app as the button is used like a mousepad on a laptop. All you would need to do is touch the button and scroll around.

In order for the app to be interactive it could work like a holo projector like that of sci-fi movies where a person or invisible screen in the air appears and everyone is able to see the "screen" and interact with it. Apps could include music apps where people could choose their songs and it would automatically play in their houses stereo. When making phone calls you could look at the person and talk to them while making dinner. When making dinner recipes the projectors would be literally right in front of your face and this way the small size of the device prevents it from getting damaged. Yes, we already have similar devices such as iPad's and iPhones, although their size makes them a lot easier to get broken. You could still play games but multiple people can watch you play too. When you are not using it, the button could show what the date and time were, and your calendar for the week. There would be no need for having to turn on the screen to show this, as it would be literally showing you in the air. You wouldn't need to use your phone or lose it because you wouldn't need it. Imagine being able to talk on a tiny little button that you could carry everywhere fit in the side of your zips in your handbag and even plug in headphones for the go.

As we have seen the iPhone advance with the use of apps there has got to be something new, something that like the iPhone took the world by storm. Yes if this was real it would take away the idea of watching TV as the buttons act like the Internet and you could watch all your shows on there. However, some people would still prefer to watch shows on a screen, much similar in the way people still enjoy reading newspapers rather than on a screen. Unlike watching it on a phone, laptop or iPad everyone is able to watch it too.

Viral Media

Who has seen the video Charlie bit my finger?  Funny right? Well if you haven't seen it you can click on the link previous, so you know what I am talking about. But what makes the video spiral out of control? Why do millions of people around the world want to watch it?

It was originally just a home video that was put on YouTube. Is it our love for innocent little children and when we see the youngest smile and laugh we find it hilarious because no longer is Charlie an innocent little child, he smirks with an evil grin. The video becomes viral starting with the first viewer and if they think its funny, then they want their family and friends to experience the same laughter, therefore expanding the networks. It could be suggested that there is a cycle for this where the video is online then watched by someone who shares it with others. When the cycle is repeated many times, and a large quantity of people have viewed the video this is when it has gone viral. Regarding the video Charlie bit my finger uploaded in 2007, therefore over six years this video has had enough time to go viral, with having 522,958,661 views on You Tube. All you have to do is type into Google charlie bit and already four different versions of the video appear.

However, another way of looking at viral media is identifying all the various connections and how they interact with each other as some people may show the person the video yet they have already seen it before. This model shows that viral media works like the human brain, when we learn new things we create new pathways in our brain.

In contrast, when each person views the video they have never seen, it creates new links in the network. This expands the network and over time when it has reached worldwide, there are several connections and people watching. Viral media never ends it continues, when a new person watches it. Due to videos being online they are irremovable and views will always be increasing over time. In a short amount of time already the video would become watched around the world, although it all starts in one place.

Networked Storytelling

As a group each participant was required to film a frame using a video/digital camera to make the video look more effective. We brainstormed some ideas and found that having a murder video left us with many options to choose from. Although, we could not just simply think up an idea for a story as we required a story with options so that participants watching the video can get involved. Some original choices we thought of was consequences for going right or left, taking a short or long route and our chosen idea of whether to investigate a tapping noise or not.

We attempted in making it as realistic as possible and presenting the video from the viewers point of view, therefore engaging them in realising that they are part of the video. As this was the second time of working together in a group, it made it easier in knowing where people's strengths and weaknesses lie. We worked very well in establishing the video together, as it was from the audiences point of view which made it easier as we were able to create the videos individually in our houses.

Again, we communicated on a page on facebook posting our videos and allowing the videos to be easily accessible for creating the you tube video.

I really like the video we have created, it holds suspense and by the end presents a shock factor to viewers. The intention is making people jump out of their seats! The video represents our everyday lives and that at night if we hear something out of the usual, we immediately think the worst. However, this video provides the options that an unusual sound can actually sway both ways depending upon the choices you make. I also like the video because the viewer doesn't know what will happen about the decision they make. However, it can be assumed that this type of video would not become viral due to the shock factor, however many scary videos have become viral such as slender man and that zombie that pops up while you focus on watching a car. This proves that viewers want to see different shocking things. They might be terrified, yet they cannot take their eyes off the screen due to the eeriness, they just have to find out what will happen next.

After each option is chosen another video is opened to continue the story, therefore relying on the memory of the viewers. We hope they have not clicked on the add button and then forgotten about it, as this interference could affect how they see the video later.

The idea of add buttons is the access of opening new networks as by the end of watching the video we have four tabs opened in our browser, which originally began from only one video. If we map out this video as displayed below, we can notice the various networks, how each frame has expanded, started and ended. It also provides the information of cable like connections that each videos duration stops and then begins after travelling along a cable. Wireframes are like pathways which is very similar to how our brains function, this could suggest that many things in our world today, relate to the way our minds think. The interconnections made prove that without them no story would be present. The same process is used with devices such as phones, computers and other screen related devices.

Manipulating Sound

Firstly, our group brainstormed some ideas such as beaches, cafĂ©’s, public transport however we believed these environments to be what other people would already be recording. Our group intended on making a twist to find a different environment that people are usually unaware of. Our group was not available to meet somewhere over the break due to how far away everyone lives. Therefore, we came up with an idea that would be convenient for everyone to draw sounds from, this is where the environment of noises around the house at night came about. Originally it was intended to be night time environment although we changed it to make it more specific by calling our environment, the sounds that occur around the house at night time.

To remain in contact our group created a page for the assignment on Facebook where everyone was able to post their ideas, sounds and comment on what they thought about each one. Sounds were easily accessible on the Facebook page all that needed to be done was saving the sound and uploading it on sound cloud.

The group decided that we would record these sounds over the break and present them on Wednesday to see how they all formulated together. The putting together of sounds was completed on Audacity where we needed to send our sounds via Facebook or email. Recordings on phones had to be sent to a laptop then saved and uploaded on to sound cloud. From there we had to find out how we would embed the sound cloud posts on to our blogs. This was discovered by simply searching on Google, for instructions of how to accomplish this. Google provided information that we were to click on share underneath the sound cloud upload, then copy the widget URL address and then simply paste it into the HTML section on our new post.

We had a minor challenge as someone’s sound was accidently forgotten, therefore I clarified it on our page on Facebook, to ensure everyone knew about the extra sound. This way of communicating really helps because we are able to make sure we all present the same material. It is hard to think how we could have accomplished this assignment back in the 1800s.  This would be extremely hard as back then we would need to be writing letters to each other and if a letter got lost then there would be no way of communicating. The advancement of technology has made living a lot easier, although has it made us lazy?

I am pleased with the result it sounds good and represents the sounds that occur during the night time that may not always be recognised. I believe that perhaps the pigeon could be removed only because I do not think that pigeons are awake at night; however in this case maybe it happened to be awake.

Overall, our group worked well together with the help of social media and everyone helped each other in areas of weakness. As a result, everyone improved their skills, with the help of the internet and each other.

Networked Society Shaping Ideas

Does our past reflect our future?

The connection of networks was displayed by enlightenment thinkers in the 1500s-1800s as they abnormally challenged the ideas of the church. Likewise, the ideas of people who created internet sites that have now taken the world by storm.

Rene Descartes
Rene' Descartes
Rene’ Descartes (1596-1650) unlike the rest of society in his time, challenged the churches idea that what makes up a human is our physical body. Descartes believed that even if we did not have physical features, we would still be a human as proved by his famous statement “I think therefore I am.” This revolutionary thinking was talked about by many people and created conversations, by doing so it expanded networks in the community. This is similar to Tim-Berners-Lee who created the worldwide web as he believes that as a “culture we decide what to create.” This suggests that people choose how they intend to use the internet, and they have the power to control what they consume online. Similarly, Lee believes that “everybody has to look into the future,” and this is exactly what Descartes did to gain power in society. Lee further explains his point by stating it is only “early days,” that the world is still producing ideas for the future that we do not see coming.
Ted Berners-Lee

Penny Post Letter
Mark Zuckerberg thought beyond what society deemed possible by creating Face smash for Harvard College which was later revamped as the most common social networking site in the world, Facebook. Zuckerberg gave advice to entrepreneurs in an interview, telling them to “do something that’s fundamental.” He urges them to “not settle for something easy,” this describes the true essence of his idea to create something that was complex. During the twenty first century the Penny Post, was the Facebook of its era it “connected family and friends” in a similar way that Facebook does. It allowed people to keep in touch no matter how far away they lived. Writing on letters was immovable in contrast to Facebook anything displayed online will be irreversible. Catherine Golden states this advancement created a “postal network,” allowing letters to be sent for different reasons. The Penny Post experienced limitations similar to Facebook such as fraud, blackmail and junk mail. Had the Penny Post never been created would we be able to connect with people around the world?

Larry Page and Sergey Brin
Denis Diderot
Denis Diderot (1713-1784) the primary editor of the Encyclopedie was crucial to enlightenment as it was the book on human knowledge. Culture has changed dramatically as now people do not go to a book for all the information they need, they can find out in Google. Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin invented Google and the site is used by “over one hundred million” people. Google allows people to expand their knowledge and communicate with their community. Page believes the nursery he and Brin attended, taught them to be “self-motivated and question what’s going on in the world.” These aspects are close to the types of ideas and mindset of enlightenment thinkers.
Encyclopedie

Some may argue that enlightenment thinkers have not influenced the creation of network sites in society. They may believe that network sites were inevitable and not everyone agreed with enlightenment ideas. If this was true the courage to create something different would not be acceptable today.

Hi fellow bloggers,
I thought I would give you a bit of a background about myself. I am currently a first year university student studying a Bachelor of Media alongside electives of Journalism and Tourism and Hospitality. I am open to interpretation and others criticisms, therefore feel free to disagree with my posts as that is what they are there for, as new ideas could actually sway my own opinion. I wish to understand and explore others various perspectives on certain topics and ideas. This blog aims to show how huge the internet is via various network connections and the advancing technology which is broadening our horizons.
